Septic Concerns and Water Quality
- 1993/94 — Camp Ramah-Septic Lagoon Burst. MOE/MRA Solution and Remediation
- 1995 — Lake Joseph Club (Club Link). Responded to request of Hemlock Point Road Association to
intercede, along with MOE insisting on up to required sewage standards before discharge.(achieved)
- 1998-99 — Torrance Barrens MRA instrumental in lobbying difference government bodies for Torrance Barrens
to become a conservation reserve and dark sky reserve. Ongoing lobbying for dark sky bylaws in our townships.
- 2003 — Touchstone Development.-MRA insisting on appropriate sewage treatment and
concerns on direct discharge of septage into Lake Muskoka. Ongoing.
- 2005 — Support of Council of Canadians concerns about misuse of water in general
and drinking water in particular. Ongoing. Read Barlow book "Blue Gold"
- 2006 — Solid Waste Disposal Concerns - New Bracebridge Landfill Site for Garbage.
Concern about leachate leakage into water courses. Continuing to look for viable collaborative
alternatives such as "Waste to Energy". MRA has been studying this alternative for 10 years. Ongoing.
- 2007 — Contacted Township to prioritize septic inspections on over threshold lakes and
Support for district Lake Health development restrictions plus additional concerns for smaller lakes and commercial development. Ongoing.
- 2007 — Port Carling proposed boundary expansion East. Sewage service implications. Ongoing.
- 2009 — Eveleigh Waste Transfer Station / Medora Lagoons. Following up District action on this process of dealing with septic tank waste.
- 2010 — Fresh Water Summit- Bracebridge. MRA delegation of 5 MRA Directors.
- 2010 — Annual Report was dedicated to the Environment.
The MRA is extremely fortunate to have an Environmental Engineer, formerly with the MOE, who as a member of
our Board of Directors provides inputs in all of the above Environmental concerns and projects
