The story of our new logo

The Muskoka Ratepayers' Association (formerly the TMLRA) has recently adopted a new name and a new logo. We have moved from the fletching of an arrow, to a loon, rising up to be heard.

For many of us, spotting a loon, or listening to its haunting call on a quiet, summer evening define the Muskoka experience. One of Muskoka's most popular and cherished birds, the loon symbolizes the peaceful and relaxed atmosphere of the area, as well as its vast, natural and undisturbed landscape.

We've seen the iconic loon on posters, coins, brochures — always the quiet loon, swimming and simply floating on the water. Muskoka Ratepayer Director, Michel Fortin, challenged the creative group at his company (Elliott Sinclair Communications) to redesign the logo. They came up with a distinct loon in an aggressive posture, standing out of the water, with beak open, calling to be heard. The open wings suggest our mission to embrace the importance of Muskoka. This is what the Muskoka Ratepayers' Association is about — aggressively addressing issues, standing for causes, speaking for the ratepayers of the Township. Aggressive and embracing — both interpretations suit the work of our association.

Serenity, environmental symbolism and resilient spirit, the loon is the perfect representation of the Muskoka Ratepayers' focused mandate: to address issues that are relevant to Muskoka.

So when you see the loon, think Muskoka Ratepayers: a different name and logo, but the same commitment to everything and everyone in Muskoka.
