 Welcome to summer!The long wait for another fabulous Muskoka summer is over! And we're looking forward to seeing everyone at our Annual General Meeting and Environmental Showcase on Saturday July 14 starting at 9:00 a.m. The Muskoka Ratepayers' Association wishes to thank all our members for continuing to support us in 2007. Our volunteer board is extremely active but there are costs such as meeting expenses, administrative support, membership mailings and newspaper reports, which need to be offset by membership fees. We are also trying to do more communication by email to save costs so please let us know if it is working. Fire/Emergency Improvements Recently, our Fire Chief, Jim Sawkins, updated me on the many Emergency Services activities underway in our township. I'm sure everyone is aware of the large capital expenditures that the Township is making for new trucks and upgraded fire stations. But you may not know about the expected cost savings for most of us on our fire insurance rates as a result of the changes. The Township will now qualify for the Superior Tanker Shuttle Certification, which means that those of us in rural, non-hydrant protected mainland areas could see an average savings of 27% on our insurance. The certification letter is now available from the Township's website. Get it here, and then you can send it to your insurance company. The fire teams have worked hard to gain this certification for us and we are very grateful to these volunteers for their continuing support. Have a happy and safe summer.
