![]() NO Power Again!Well, I'm sitting here in the dark composing this newsletter. It certainly seems that power failures are more frequent and last far longer than in the past. Two days seems to be the norm for us now, but others have it far worse so I'd better not complain too much! A generator is fast becoming a mandatory piece of equipment for any residence in Muskoka. As trees grow older and taller, they're just not being trimmed around power lines like they used to be. We're fortunate that other parts of Ontario have been fast to help Hydro One in our area or we'd be out of power even longer! But unless things are done differently, the trees are going to be more of a problem every year. The trees are beautiful but unfortunately they must be trimmed more. It's even more inconvenient to have no power in winter as many residents remember from last year. Municipal Election November 13, 2006Our township has made it very easy for you to vote. A ballot will be mailed to you in the middle of October, which you can then return by mail or drop off at the Township office in Port Carling. This is your opportunity to elect the Mayor, Township and District council members as well as school board trustees. And remember, this time you're electing them for a 4-year term, not 3! The Council decides on your services, taxes (mill rates, NOT assessments), what development occurs and what will be done to protect your environment. These items are all crucial to maintain our quality of life in Muskoka. All Canadian property owners or tenants and their spouses are eligible to vote. Children over 18 can vote if their identification shows a permanent address in the township. Please call the township office if you are uncertain if you are on the voting list. Additional details are available on the township's web site. If you missed the All Candidates the TMLRA hosted on October 1, there are also Candidate meetings by Ward put on by the Chamber of Commerce mid week in October. The TMLRA is sending out an information bulletin on the Candidates later in October to our members. If you are not a TLMRA member and wish to receive this, please send in the attached application form. Please note that TMLRA does NOT endorse individual candidates. Let's elect an excellent Council to represent Muskoka for the next 4 years! |
